Landscape lighting
Landscape Lighting for Boise & the Treasure Valley
Landscape lighting brings trees, planting beds, walkways, stonework and patios into view after dark. Pure Light Systems designs and installs TruLight landscape lighting and plans it together with permanent roofline lighting, so the house and yard read as one exterior design. Every landscape project is custom quoted.
Start with what you want to see at night
Good landscape lighting starts with views, not fixtures. Before we suggest any placement, we look at the property from the places you actually see it:
- The street, where the house and yard make their first impression.
- The driveway, where you arrive every evening.
- The front walk, where guests need a clear, comfortable path.
- The patio, where you spend time outside.
- Your windows, where a lit yard keeps the view from going black.
A useful way to prepare: take photos of the yard from the street and from the patio, and note what you see through your main windows after dark.
Where landscape lighting makes a difference
Trees and specimen plants
A single well-lit tree can anchor the whole front yard at night. Light from below shows the shape of the trunk and canopy; the right placement depends on the tree’s size, branching and where it is viewed from.
Planting beds
Low, soft light across shrubs and beds gives the yard depth so the house does not appear to float in a dark lot.
Pathways and steps
Lighting the front walk, garden paths and any change in grade makes them easier to see and follow after dark, and leads guests to the door.
Stonework and entryways
Light grazing across stone veneer, columns or a stacked-stone wall brings out texture that disappears at night, and frames the entry.
Patios and outdoor spaces
Lighting around the patio and the parts of the yard you look at from it keeps the garden in view while you are sitting outside.
These categories follow TruLight's landscape lighting guidance.
Fixture types and where they’re used
The fixtures in a design depend on what each area needs. These are the types we work with most often; your quote lists the exact fixtures for your property.
| Fixture type | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Tree lights and spotlights | Uplighting trees, tall plants and larger architectural features |
| Path lights (including witch-hat style) | Walkways, garden paths and bed edges, with light directed down |
| Step lights | Stairs and changes in elevation |
| Paver lights | Set into hardscape such as walkways and patio edges |
| Can lights | Low-profile lighting for beds, paths and landscape details |
| Pillar lights | Columns, entry pillars and posts |
| Bistro lights | Overhead light for patios and outdoor living areas |
Warm, even light for everyday evenings
Most landscape lighting is meant to run every evening, so we plan it around warm, even light that complements the house rather than competing with it. Brightness is balanced so trees, beds and paths look natural from the street and comfortable from the patio, without glare into windows or neighboring yards.
Landscape fixtures are different products from roofline lights. We go over the specific fixtures and what each can do when we plan your design, instead of assuming every roofline feature carries over.
Planning roofline and landscape lighting together
When roofline and landscape lighting are planned at the same time, brightness and color temperature can be matched so the house and yard look like one design. In the TruLight systems we install, landscape lighting is controlled in the same app as the roofline, so the whole exterior can be part of your evening routine.

How landscape lighting is priced
Landscape lighting is custom quoted based on the fixtures, placement, and scope of the design. The roofline per-foot range does not apply to landscape lighting.
A landscape quote depends on the number and type of fixtures, where they go, and how far wiring needs to run. Permanent roofline lighting is priced differently, typically around $27–$30 per linear foot. See how permanent lighting is priced for the roofline side.
Landscape lighting FAQ
What can landscape lighting light up?
Trees and specimen plants, planting beds, the front walk and garden paths, steps, stonework, columns around the entry, and patios or other spaces where you spend evenings.
How much does landscape lighting cost?
Landscape lighting is custom quoted based on the fixtures, placement, and scope of the design. The roofline per-foot range does not apply to landscape lighting. We prepare a custom quote after reviewing the yard and the design with you.
Can landscape lighting be combined with permanent roofline lighting?
Yes. We plan roofline and landscape lighting as one exterior design, and in the TruLight systems we install, landscape lighting is controlled in the same app as the roofline.
Can I add landscape lighting later?
Yes. Landscape lighting can be planned with a new roofline installation or discussed as an addition to an existing system. We review what your current setup supports during the quote.
Do landscape lights do everything roofline lights do?
Not necessarily. Landscape fixtures are different products from roofline lights, so we go over the specific fixtures and their capabilities when we plan your design.
